Working Principle of Lever

Force and distance together · Proved by experiment · Mechanical advantage

What We Will Learn Today

⚖️

Prove the principle of the lever by experiment

📏

Measure load distance and effort distance correctly

🧮

Use the principle to find an unknown effort

📈

Work out mechanical advantage and read what it means

Activity
Balancing a Scale on a Stand
HOLE
Make a hole at the 50 cm mark, the exact middle of the one metre scale.
MOUNT
Mount it on the stand with a wire and level the empty scale.
HANG
Hang the load on the right and the effort on the left, changing masses into newtons.
RECORD
Record every force and distance in the table.

Presenter notes: Today we find out, by doing an experiment, what relationship holds between the forces and the distances on a balanced lever.
