Laying out a track on the school ground to find displacement, average speed and average velocity
Method
On the school ground, use a 50 m measuring tape or a rope to lay out a track shaped like a winding road.
Using a stopwatch, have a friend go from one end of the track to the other, walking in some parts and jogging slowly in others, and record the time taken.
Note down which direction your friend was moving in along each section of the track.
Calculate the displacement, the average speed, and the average velocity in one chosen section. For average speed divide the distance covered by the time taken; for average velocity divide the distance covered in a definite direction by the time taken to cover it.
