Making Models of Atoms

  • Binding wire
  • Thread
  • Table tennis balls
  • Small clay balls
Method
  • Share out the work, alone or in groups, of making models of the atoms with atomic numbers 1 to 20.
  • Use the materials you have to make the models you are responsible for.
  • Study the models and make a table of the symbol, atomic number and electron arrangement of each element from hydrogen to calcium.
Discussion
  • Display your models and your table in the class.
  • Using the models and the table, discuss the atomic structure of each element.
