Filling a cylinder with a cone

Method
  • Form groups of students of a suitable size.
  • Using chart paper, each group makes a cylinder whose radius of base and height are equal.
  • Also make a cone with the same height and the same radius of base as the cylinder.
  • Fill the cone with sand or dust of soil and pour it into the cylinder until the cylinder is filled up completely.
Discussion
  • How many times should the cone be poured to fill up the cylinder?
  • Is it filled in three times?
