Making a square based pyramid from a paper net

Method
  • Work in pairs and take a rectangular piece of paper.
  • Draw the net of a square based pyramid on it: a square in the middle with a triangle on each of its sides, and small flaps for glue.
  • Cut out the net with a pair of scissors.
  • Fold all the lateral surfaces up and join them with a glue stick so that they all meet at a common vertex.
  • Touch different parts of the finished model and ask your friends the questions below.
Discussion
  • How many surfaces are there?
  • What are the shapes of the surfaces?
  • How many vertices are there?
  • In what way are the positions of the surfaces formed?
