Worked Example: Splitting Wood with a Wedge
A force of 200 N is applied to a wedge to split wood. As the wedge sinks into the wood, a friction of 600 N is produced on its surface. The wedge is 10 cm deep and its head is 2.5 cm thick. Let us calculate the mechanical advantage, the velocity ratio and the efficiency.
