Comparing e.m.f. and p.d.

ObjectiveTo compare e.m.f. and p.d.
Materials
  • Voltmeter
  • Crocodile clips
  • Connecting wire
  • Dry cell
  • Bulb
Method
  • Build the first circuit with only the cell, a switch and the voltmeter, the voltmeter joined directly across the cell. Write the voltmeter reading in the table.
  • Build the second circuit with the cell, a switch and the bulb, and join the voltmeter in parallel with the bulb. Switch on and write the voltmeter reading in the table.
CircuitObservationCircuitObservationConclusion

Discussion
  • Compare the voltmeter readings in the two circuits and write your conclusion.
