For the first circuit (circuit A), join the bulbs one after the other in series. Keep the cells and the ammeter on the same line, and connect the voltmeter across both bulbs.
For the second circuit (circuit B), join the bulbs in parallel.
Take each circuit in turn, measure the potential differences and currents, and fill in the table.
Circuit and quantity
First bulb (\( V_1 \) or \( I_1 \))
Second bulb (\( V_2 \) or \( I_2 \))
Across both bulbs or whole circuit (V or I)
Conclusion: relationship
A: potential difference
V = …
B: potential difference
A: current
I = …
B: current
Discussion
Study your readings and write a conclusion.
Add one more bulb to each circuit and watch the brightness. Did the brightness change? Discuss in class what causes the change you saw.
