Project work: Finding the height of a building

Method
  • With the help of your parents or teachers, drop a stone from different heights, such as the roof of a house or a school building.
  • Place a tin or some other sound-producing object on the surface of the ground, so that you know when the stone hits the ground.
  • Find the time the stone takes to hit the ground.
  • Find the height of the house, school building and so on, using the equation of motion.
  • Take the average of your measurements to reduce the probable error.
  • Finally, measure the actual height with a measuring tape and mention the error in the calculated height.
