Method

Put four parts of potassium chlorate and one part of manganese dioxide into a clean hard glass test tube.
Fit the delivery tube to the test tube as shown in the apparatus diagram.
Close the mouth with a cork so that no air can escape.
Clamp the test tube to the stand with its mouth end tilted slightly downward.
Connect the other end of the delivery tube to a beehive shelf placed under water in a trough.
Fill a gas jar completely with water and turn it upside down over the beehive shelf.
Heat the mixture with a Bunsen burner or a spirit lamp.
