Method

(a) Put some pieces of zinc into a clean Woulfe's bottle.
(b) Using corks, fit a thistle funnel into one mouth of the bottle and a delivery tube into the other, as in the apparatus diagram.
(c) Close each mouth with its cork so tightly that no air can escape.
(d) Connect the other end of the delivery tube to the beehive shelf placed under water in the trough.
(e) Fill a gas jar completely with water and turn it upside down on the beehive shelf.
(f) Slowly pour dilute hydrochloric acid down the thistle funnel.
