Designing a City on Graph Paper

Method
  • Draw the X-axis and the Y-axis on a large sheet of graph paper.
  • Design a city on the graph paper and choose four main places in it.
  • Mark the school (A) at a point of your choice, for example \( 2\vec{i} + 5\vec{j} \).
  • Mark the hospital (B), for example at \( 6\vec{i} + 2\vec{j} \).
  • Mark the cinema hall (C), for example at \( 3\vec{i} + 4\vec{j} \).
  • Mark the playground (D), for example at \( 2\vec{i} - 3\vec{j} \).
  • Work out by calculation where a library should be placed halfway between two of the places, and add it to your design.
  • Find out whether two of the roads in your city are perpendicular (\( 90^\circ \)) to each other.
