Project work: Places on a graph as vectors

Method
  • On a sheet of graph paper, draw the X-axis and the Y-axis through the middle, and take the point where they cross as the origin O(0, 0).
  • In different parts of the graph, so that they fall in different quadrants, draw or mark 5 small objects, for example a house (A), a tree (B), a school (C), a temple (D) and a pond (E).
  • Find the coordinates (x, y) of each object.
  • Write those coordinates as position vectors and as column vectors.
  • Complete the table below, working out the magnitude of each position vector and the scalar products asked for.
  • Prepare a report of your work and present it in class.
