Activity 3

Compare the probabilities obtained from two cases

Method
  • Put 5 red, 7 green and 4 blue identical balls in a bag.
  • First condition (with replacement): find the probability that the first ball is red.
  • The same red ball is placed back in the same bag and a second ball is drawn. Find the probability that the second ball is red.
  • Second condition (without replacement): starting again with the full bag, find the probability that the first ball is red.
  • The red ball is not placed back and a second ball is drawn. Find the probability that the second ball is red.
  • Compare the probabilities you obtained in the two conditions.
