Activity 1 (a)

Parallelogram ABQP having an angle of 120°

Method
  • Draw a rough sketch of parallelogram ABCD with AB = 4 cm, BC = 5.5 cm and ∠ABC = 60°.
  • Draw AB = 4 cm.
  • Draw an angle of 60° at B. With B as centre and radius 5.5 cm, cut the arm and name the point C.
  • Name the point D where an arc of 5.5 cm from A and an arc of 4 cm from C cross.
  • Join D with C and A with D to complete ABCD.
  • Extend DC to make the line ST. Construct an angle of 120° at B and name the point Q where its arm meets ST.
  • With a compass opened to AB, cut QS from Q and name the point P. Join A with P.
Discussion
  • The area of parallelogram ABQP is equal to the area of parallelogram ABCD. How? Discuss with your friend.
