Fill a round bottomed flask with ammonia gas and make it airtight.
Put a few drops of water inside the flask with the help of a syringe or a dropper.
This water combines with the ammonia gas inside the flask, creating a vacuum.
The air pressure inside the flask falls, so the water with phenolphthalein rushes up from the beaker. The water mixes with ammonia and turns pink because basic ammonium hydroxide is formed.
This experiment proves that ammonia is highly soluble in water.
