A Model Interpretation: Household Expenditure
The two pie charts show how Nepali households divided their spending in 2004 and in 2011, across food, housing, education and other non-food items. In both years, food was by far the largest expense. Its share rose slightly, from 59 percent in 2004 to 61.5 percent in 2011, so even after seven years families were spending well over half of their money on food. Housing also grew, from 9.5 percent to 11 percent.
