Profit and Loss

Quick Facts

Lesson: 18: Profit and Loss
Topic: Profit and Loss
Domain: Daily Arithmetic

Profit and loss percentages are always taken on the cost price. Buying at 500 and selling at 600 is a 20% profit, not 16.7%.

Study Tip

Discount comes off the marked price, while profit is measured from the cost price. Trace every percentage back to its base before calculating.
