Activity 1

Two matrices whose products are the identity

Method
  • Take the two non-singular matrices \( A = \begin{bmatrix} 7 & 5 \\ 4 & 3 \end{bmatrix} \) and \( B = \begin{bmatrix} 3 & -5 \\ -4 & 7 \end{bmatrix} \).
  • Multiply A by B and find AB.
  • Multiply B by A and find BA.
Discussion
  • If AB and BA are both equal to the identity matrix \( I_{2 \times 2} \), what kind of matrices are A and B?
